During the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) congress in Madrid (July 7-11), the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) saw its participation reinforced by the election of Sara Pereira to chair of the Media Education Research section and the continuation of Ana Melo as vice chair of the Participatory Communication Research section. Carla Cerqueira took the chair of the Research and Policy section of Global Alliance on Media and Gender. At the closing ceremony of the congress, Helena Sousa received the IAMCR Distinguished Contribution Award.
Seven new actions of 2CN-CLab in Brazil
Between July 31 and August 26, the Cultural Cooperation Networks - Creative Laboratory (2CN-CLab) will hold seven actions for researchers, practitioners and future professionals from the cultural sector in Fortaleza, Salvador, Sobral and Recife, Brazil.

She spent four months in the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) as a visiting researcher, a period that she characterized as "a rich experience" and "a complement of the academic course".
Carmen Costa Sánchez: “CECS is a reference point in research in the field of Organizational Communication”
Carmen Costa Sánchez, a researcher and professor at the University of Coruña, has a PhD from the Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela and has been at the CECS for a one-month scientific internship.

On July 29, at 10:00 a.m., in the Institute of Social Sciences, took place de Ph.D. viva in Communication Sciences of Cristiane Parente de Sá Barreto. The thesis, supervised by Manuel Pinto, is entitled “Media and Press Observatory – Participation Spaces and Media Literacy in Portugal and Brazil”.

On July 23, at 2:00 p.m., in the Institute of Social Sciences, took place de Ph.D. viva in Sociology of Rosa Adriana Dias da Silva. The thesis, supervised by Helena Machado, is entitled “Aging and living in prison: Prison experiences of elderly inmates”.
Cassimo Manuel Jamal: new PhD in Cultural Studies
On July 15, at 2:00 p.m., in the Institute of Social Sciences, took place de Ph.D. viva in Cultural Studies of Cassimo Manuel Jamal. The thesis, supervised by Rosa Cabecinhas, is entitled “Representations of Colonialism in the History School Manuals of the 1st cycle of General Secondary Education in the post-independence period in Mozambique”.
