4th edition of Mentes Luminosas (Bright Minds)
On 23 January at 7 p.m.(PT)/4 p.m. (BR), Createlab will organise the 4th edition of Mentes Luminosas (Bright Minds), this time with the support of the #Nem1SemProfessor Observatory. The event, which coincides with World Education Day, will feature Aline Veroneze, founder of the #Nem1SemProfessor Observatory, and Clinton Davisson, researcher and writer.
Nova Publicação -Trajetos Comunicantes: A Matéria da Escuta
To conclude the Connecting Commutes project, part of the artistic programme of Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture, the book ‘Trajetos Comunicantes: A Matéria da Escuta’ is being published in partnership with Audire and CECS. The work, edited by Luís Pinto, coordinator of this project, features essays by artists, researchers - including three CECS collaborators - and students who responded to the international call launched in 2025, which also resulted in around 80 sound pieces that were part of the project launched in March 2025.
PhD Viva of Francisco Conrado
The PhD Viva in Communication Sciences of Francisco Conrado Araújo Silva Filho will take place on 24 February 2026, at 2 p.m., in the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho. The thesis, supervised by Luís António Santos, is entitled ‘The interaction between performative social and traditional media statuses in the formation of discourse: Metamorphoses, centrality and exception in a relational analysis of events on Twitter/X over seven years.’
PhD Viva of Pedro Ribeiro
Pedro Eduardo Oliveira Ribeiro's PhD Viva in Communication Sciences will take place on 24 February 2026, at 9:30 a.m., in the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho. The thesis, supervised by Rosa Cabecinhas, is entitled ‘Lifestyle magazines, objectification of the body and transmedia affection: meanings, discourses and intersectionalities.’
New PhD in Sociology: João Pires
On 22 January 2026, at 2:30 p.m., João Lucas Moreira Pires' doctoral examinations in Sociology were held in the Assembly Hall of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho. The thesis, supervised by Luís Cunha, is entitled ‘From the dissemination of information as an ambition for progress to the danger of hermeneutic collapse.’
PhD Viva of Alessandra Nardini
Alessandra Nardini's PhD Viva in Cultural Studies will take place on 20 February 2026, at 9:30 a.m., in the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho. The thesis, supervised by Moisés Martins, Isabel Macedo, and Marcio Serelle, is entitled ‘The music video and the audiovisual aesthetic experience: narratives of resistance and activism in Portuguese-speaking countries.’
