CECS celebrates Press Freedom with launch of think tank

CECS marked World Press Freedom Day – 3 May – with the launch of its think tank Communitas in the form of a debate. The event, which was held in the ICS Hall, was attended by the director of CECS, Moisés de Lemos Martins, researchers Joaquim Fidalgo and Jean-Martin Rabot and the representative of Theatro Circo, Paulo Brandão.

Felisbela Lopes in FCT evaluation

Felisbela Lopes, a CECS’ researcher, was appointed co-coordinator of the Communication and Information Sciences Panel for the Award of Doctorate Scholarships 2018. This is the third consecutive panel of evaluation in which this teacher associated with aggregation participates in the scope of the PhD and Post Doctoral Fellowships promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology.

Andreia Durães Gomes: a new CECS’ doctor

The doctoral exams of Andreia Maria Durães Gomes, CECS researcher, took place on May 18, at 10:00 am, in the Hall of the Institute of Social Sciences. The student obtained the maximum score of the University of Minho (very good), with the unanimity of the jury. The thesis, supervised by Professor Isabel dos Guimarães Sá (CECS) and Professor Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro, was entitled “Town Houses: a process of privatization and luxury consumption in the urban middle classes (Lisbon in the second half of the 18th century and early XIX century)”.

Jorge Palinhos: PhD in Cultural Studies

Jorge Palinhos defended doctoral exams in Cultural Studies, on may 15, at 2:00 p.m., in the Room of Academic Acts,  in the Auditorium B2 of Pedagogical Complex II (Building 2), University of Minho. The thesis was supervised by Madalena Oliveira and is entitled “Action and power in contemporary drama”.
