CECS's Migramedia Acts project has teamed up with LuckyStar-Cineclube de Braga and the Citizens' Forum for the Eradication of Poverty - Braga for a film series that will take place on Tuesday evenings in April at the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library (at 9:30 pm).
E-Monitoring Final Conference: “Electronic Surveillance: Present and Future Challenges”
The final conference of the E-Monitoring project will be held on May 9, with the theme “Electronic Surveillance: Present and Future Challenges”. Organized by the E-Monitoring project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology under the Restart programme (2023.00030.RESTART) and based at the Centre for Communication and Society Studies at the University of Minho, this conference proposes a critical reflection on the challenges of electronic surveillance. On April 28, at 5:30 p.m., the Communication and Diversity Seminar “Other stories, other plans...” will take place at the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library. Held in partnership with the MigraMediaActs Project and the Virtual Museum of Lusophony, the Seminar is part of the initiatives organized as part of the International Congress “Migrations and communication in the planetary era: debates and actions” (April 29 and 30, University of Minho).

The International Congress ‘Migration and Communication in a Planetary Age: Debates and Actions’ will be held in Braga on 29 and 30 April 2025 at the University of Minho. The event will bring together academics and professionals with a diverse scientific and cultural programme, including a film cycle. The project ‘MigraMediaActs - Migrations, Media and Activisms in Portuguese: Decolonising Media Landscapes and Imagining Alternative Futures’ is organising the event. The II Meeting of Doctoral Students in Communication Sciences will be held on May 10 in the ICS conference room. The event, aimed at PhD students in Communication Sciences, is organized by the Doctoral Delegates Committee of the same course and will consist of three discussion tables, led by Elisabete Mercês, Paulo Couraceiro and Aline Veroneze, delegates from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree. Open Class: The chained or filipina letter: configurations of the alphabet
On April 11, at 3.45pm, there will be an open class entitled ‘The chained or Filipino letter: configurations of the alphabet’, organised by Isabel dos Guimarães Sá. It will take place in room 303 of building 3 on the Gualtar Campus in Braga, with a presentation by Rui Faria. The event takes place as part of the Palaeography and Diplomacy course and, as usual, admission is free.
New Doctor in Communication Sciences: Crisvalter Medeiros
Crisvalter Rogério de Araújo Medeiros's PhD Viva in Communication Sciences took place on 8 April in the Conference Room of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho, at 2pm. The thesis, supervised by Sara Pereira and Manuel Pinto, is entitled ‘The educommunication interface and extension actions: a study of a higher education institution in Brazil (IFPB)’.
Open Class “The Portuguese aristocracy in the Bragança dynasty”
An open lecture on “The Portuguese aristocracy in the Bragança dynasty” will be held on April 8 at 11 a.m. in room 0.08 of building 3 of the University of Minho. This event will feature a presentation by Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro, from the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon, and is organized by Andreia Durães, from the History Department of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho. Admission is free.

Lídia Carvalhaes' PhD Viva in Cultural Studies took place on April 1st in the Hall of Acts of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho at 2pm The thesis, supervised by Helena Pires and Manuel Gama, is entitled “Culture in Brazilian Federal Institutes: implications and possibilities for Sustainable Community Development”.
