Exchange of DNA data in the EU: Engaging Science with Social Control, Citizenship and Democracy, started in October 2015 and will run until 30 September 2020, is led by Helena Machado and is based in the CECS. It has a budget of about 1.8 million euros. This is a Consolidator Grant awarded by the European Research Council. CECS will boost the digital space of the Cultural Recognition Museum
The 'Dynamisation of the digital space of the Museum of Cultural Recognition', which is the result of a partnership between CECS and the Braga Integra project, which Braga Municipal Council is the financing entity, aims to create and make available an autonomous digital platform, the aggregation in this space of relevant information to the training of the migrant population and the active promotion of their inclusion in the host society and the production of multimedia content with narratives about individual paths of migrant citizens residing in Braga. The partnership also provides the creation of a website, tasks that will be coordinated by researchers Luís António Santos and Ana Maria Silva.
Transmedia Literacy International Conference: Registration until February 15
The registration period for the "Transmedia Literacy International Conference" (Teenagers, Tansmedia Skills and Informal Learning Strategies in the New Media Ecology), which will be held in Barcelona (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) from March 22 to 24, is open until February 15. Registration for congressists with proposals accepted, runs until February 15 and for other participants, as of February 16. The event, is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No. 645238, and marks the end of the European Transliteracy project, which began in June 2016. The Portuguese team includes Sara Pereira, Manuel Pinto, Pedro Moura, Joana Fillol and Andreia Lobo.
International Congress “Europe as a Space for Intercultural Dialogue and Mediation”: Registration with reduced fees until February 12
The deadline for registration with reduced rates for the International Conference "Europe as a space for Intercultural Dialogue and Mediation", ends on February 12. The Conference, that will be hel at the Unoiversity of Minho, and is organized by CECS in conjunction with other entities, will unleash a space of interdisciplinary debate on the contemporary challenges of contemporary society, addressing issues such as migration, diversity, intercultural communication and mediation in order to deepen the construction of more welcoming, inclusive and peaceful societies.
Summer School on “Surveillance technologies, Criminality, and Human Rights”: deadline for submission of proposals until April 3
The deadline for submissions of proposals for the 1st Summer School on "Surveillance technologies, Criminality, and Human Rights" ends at April 3. This Summer School, which is organized by EXCHANGE, a research project hosted by the CECS-Communication and Society Research Center and funded by the European Research Council, will take place at University of Minho (Braga), from June 25 to June 28.

Call for Communications for the 4th Acceleration Academy conference open until February 28, 2018
The call for papers for the 4th conference on the theme of the Accelerated Academy is open until February 28, 2018. The conference, to which CECS is associated, will take place in May 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic, and aims to develop and deepen the understanding of academic temporalities as they are lived, understood, controlled, managed, imagined and contested in the contemporary world and what implications they leave to the future.
Call for Papers for the 4th CIMODE until February 15
The contributions to the CIMODE 2018 - 4th International Fashion and Design Congress, are open until February, 15. The Congress will be held in the Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid- CSDMM, in Madrid, Spain, from May 21 to 23, and has several CECS researchers associated. CECS is one of the institutions associated to an International Conference at UTAD
The CECS is associated to the International Conference “Portugal in (and during the) First World War", an organization of the Department of Letters, Arts and Communication (DLAC) of UTAD, together with the Center for Transdisciplinary Research "Culture, Space and Memory "(CITCEM). On February 14, 2018 (2:30 p.m.), in the ICS-UMinho Sala de Atos, ?another Permanent Seminar on Communication Policies will take place, with the presence of Rodrigo Saturnino, postdoctoral student of the CECS, with a research project in the area of communication and digital economy, under the guidance of Helena Sousa. Indexed about a year and a half ago by SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online, the "Comunicação e Sociedade" journal, edited by the CECS-Communication and Society Research Center of the University of Minho, is now available on the platform of this electronic library, with includes a selected collection of scientific journals. With the availability of "Communication and Society" in SciELO, and given the spread of the journal's visibility in the national and international scientific community, the impact of our scientific work grows. The "Communication and Society" is already indexed at Scopus, Erih Plus, Qualis Capes, Latindex, MIAR, CIRC, among others.
Discourses and Images of Cultural Tourism: call for papers for Lusophone Journal of Cultural Studies is open
It is open until February, 28, 2018, the call for papers fot the Revista Lusófona de Estudos CulturaisLusophone Journal of Cultural Studies (v.5, nº2), under the theme "Discourses and Images of Cultural Tourism" /"Discursos e Imagens do Turismo Cultural", which is edited by Zara Pinto-Coelho (CECS) and Roque Pinto (State University of Santa Cruz [Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz], Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil). This issue of RLEC accepts articles based on empirical research, essays, interviews and reviews of relevant works within the theme presented. The publication date of the journal is scheduled for December 2018.

CECS researcher Manuel Pinto is the guest editor of the seventh issue of the Revista de Estudos de Jornalismo (2017, december), which is dedicated to the theme "Routes and continuities". Book Vozes plurais: a comunicação das organizações da sociedade civil presented in Braga and Lisbon
The book Vozes plurais: a comunicação das organizações da sociedade civil (Documenta / Sistema Solar), coordinated by the CECS researcher and lecturer at the Lusófona University of Porto Carla Cerqueira and by Sónia Lamy, a researcher at CIC-Digital and a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, was presented in Braga and Lisbon. Two moments of discussion that brought the perspectives of academia and civil society organizations. In Braga, the book presentation was made by Ana Melo (CECS).
Training in Visual Communication in the framework of the PhD program in Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society
"Visual Communication/Visual Syntax. How to study or analyze images? What are the principles of visual language?" were the themes of the most recent training course of the FCT doctoral program in "Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society", whose consortium is led by the CECS. The training counted on about two dozen students of the second and third cycles of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho.
Open session on sound language
Sofia Saldanha, author of the documentary series "I do not know what tomorrow will bring", a sound tour in the Fernando Pessoa's Lisbon, was the protagonist of an open class of the Curricular Unit of "Communication and Languages", which took place on January 16, especially dedicated to sound plasticity, and in which she sought the sounds that "drew" the images of a time that we do not live: "These sounds are here for what?
