New Doctor of Geography: Joel Lameco

Joel António Lameco’s PhD Viva in Geography took place on 28 February in the Conference Room of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho, at 2.30pm.

The thesis, supervised by Maria José Caldeira and Virgínia Barata Teles, is entitled ‘The Porosity of the Mozambican Land Border – the impact of illegal immigration on border communities and national security. The case of Mozambique’s border with Tanzania’.

The jury, chaired by Paula Remoaldo, was made up of:

– Jorge da Silva Macaísta Malheiros, Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and
Planning Institute of the University of Lisbon;
– Flávio Paulo Jorge Nunes, Associate Professor at the Geography Department of the
Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho;
– Paulo Nuno Maia de Sousa Nossa, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and
Department of Geography and Tourism of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra;
– Maria José Boavida Miguel Caldeira, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Institute of Social Sciences, University of Minho
of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho;
– Luís Miguel Alves Bessa Moreira, Visiting Professor with the rank of Assistant Professor
of the Geography Department of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho.
