“The right over oneself: 150 years of abolition of slavery in the Portuguese Empire”

On 10 December, there will be a guided tour of and a round table discussion on the exhibition “The Right to Self: 150 years of the abolition of slavery in the Portuguese Empire”.

Between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., the exhibition curators, Miguel Bandeira Jerónimo and José Pedro Monteiro, will give a guided tour of the exhibition at the Paço Gallery in Braga. The work takes documents from the Arquivo Nacional Torre do Tombo and Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino.

Between 6 pm and 8 pm, there will be space for a round table discussion with the aim of discussing some of the themes of the exhibition, as well as its legacies in the present and in the future. The round table will be composed by Professors Moisés de Lemos Martins, Helena Sousa, Rosa Cabecinhas, Luís Aguiar-Conraria and Deputy Beatriz Gomes Dias.
