“Thinking about journalism with journalists”: National Meeting of the Commission for the Professional Card of Journalists

On December 15, 2022, at 11 am, the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho will host one more session of the National Meetings organized by the Comissão da Carteira Profissional de Jornalista (Journalists’ Professional Licence Committee; CCPJ).

Thinking about journalism with journalists will be the main motto of the itinerant conversations the CCPJ intends to hold across the country with journalists holding a professional title, journalism students, and all those interested in debating, reflecting and sharing ideas on the regulation of journalism and the practice of journalistic activity.

It is a decentralization project with which the CCPJ intends to bring the institution closer to journalists and journalism across the country. There will be twenty sessions, one in each district of mainland Portugal, Madeira, and the Azores, attended by no less than two of the nine journalists who currently belong to the CCPJ’s Secretariat and Plenary. On the one hand, they propose to present the experience they have, from the inside, of this independent entity of journalists’ co-regulation, discussing its competencies and functions and, on the other hand, to open the sessions to dialogue and reflection. The aim is to think, among peers, about current journalism, the role of journalists and, eventually, to gather ideas for possible changes. Changes in legislation, behaviour, and commitment to the journalistic activity.

The session will take place in a hybrid format (Zoom).
