The thirty-four Participatory Cultural Mapping sessions, scheduled for November and December 2025 and January 2026, are part of phase 2 of the methodology developed by PolObs within the scope of the project ‘Mapping the Metropolitan Cultural Sector’, conceived by Manuel Gama and with José Gabriel Andrade and Manuel Gama as Principal Investigators.
The proposed methodology is organised into two main stages. The first, called ‘institutional mapping’, is aimed at local authority technicians (municipal councils and parish councils) and representatives of publicly-owned cultural facilities, spaces and events. The second phase, called ‘affective mapping,’ is aimed at members of the cultural ecosystem who are not part of the public sector, such as artists, associations, collectives, foundations, cultural professionals, and interested citizens.
By promoting active listening and horizontal dialogue between the various stakeholders in the cultural ecosystem, these sessions seek to create spaces for co-creation, where each participant contributes complementary perspectives to the collective construction of the cultural map of the Porto Metropolitan Area.
