CONCILIARE Project launches the book “Living Memory and Media”

The book  ‘Living Memory and Media’ (*Memória Viva e Media), edited by Rosa Cabecinhas, Luiza Lins and Isabel Macedo, has just been published in partnership between CECS and Húmus Editora. The publication is the result of research carried out as part of the MigraMediaActs and CONCILIARE – Confidently Changing Colonial Heritage projects. The book includes a selection of texts presented at the event “Migrations and Communication in the Planetary Age: Debates and Actions”, as well as contributions from associated researchers.

Starting from a critical reflection on how colonial legacies manifest themselves in various forms of inequality today, the book proposes a re-examination of histories that challenge dominant narratives. It thus aims to stimulate debate on ways of unlearning colonialism and to contribute to the decolonisation of knowledge and the public sphere.

By bringing together knowledge and practices from different regions, it highlights the importance of transnational and collaborative approaches, of critique and collective action, emphasising the role of the media and culture in building fairer, more plural and inclusive societies.

Learning to unlearn colonialism involves questioning mental structures, ways of life, and the distribution and appreciation of the common good. Unlearning is an act of freedom and responsibility, of questioning and dismantling structures of inequality, opening up horizons for a shared future.
