The project “Migrations, media and activisms in Portuguese language: decolonizing media landscapes and imagining alternative futures” (MigraMediaActs), coordinated by Rosa Cabecinhas and Isabel Macedo, has been rated “Excellent” by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
MigraMediaActs aimed to analyse media content in Portuguese, seeking to understand how the decolonisation of media landscapes develops and how different social actors — such as activists, associations, and artistic collectives — contribute to these processes.
In its final report, the evaluation panel highlighted both the scientific quality and the societal relevance of the project:
The project was able to fulfill its goals and even exceed them. The scientific outcomes demonstrate high quality manifested in 13 peer reviewed articles and 1 monograph. Furthermore 1 PhD and 4 master thesis were completed during the project. The project also organized an international scientific conference with 160 participants providing a space for academic interaction and knowledge sharing, reaching beyond the national academic scene. While the scientific achievements were fully met, the project also demonstrated high societal impact by producing audiovisual material and artistic work — a series of short films featuring activists and artists. This output is particularly relevant considering the main focus and objectives of the research project. Clearly this project has been managed very professionally and with a high level of scientific rigour.
The FCT’s recognition highlights the project’s scientific excellence and social impact, as well as the team’s commitment to fostering dialogue between migration, media, and artistic practices across the Portuguese-speaking world.
