It is a multidisciplinary and multi-national project that provides data on health, socio-economic status and social and family networks of more than 85,000 individuals, with 50 years or more than 20 European countries (+ Israel). It has responded to the European Commission’s call for a study to be drawn up in cooperation with the Member States on a longitudinal study on aging in Europe. It is currently one of the main pillars of European research.
In 2008, it was selected as one of the projects to be implemented in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). It is also a key element of the European Research Area (ERA) which promises to influence research in Europe in the area of Social Sciences.
