“‘Transnational Cultural Cooperation Networks: European Portuguese, Lusophone and Ibero-American” is a post-doctoral research project, supported by FCT under the reference SFRH / BPD / 101985/2014, which is being developed in Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Through the diagnosis of critical success factors in the communication process within networks and between networks, the project aims to foster qualified networking practices among professionals and organizations in the Portuguese cultural sector, supporting the acquisition of skills, competencies and knowledge that to facilitate wider access to professional opportunities and to promote national and transnational cultural cooperation. As part of the project, three international congresses are planned: the first was held in Portugal in 2016, the second will be held in Spain, in 2018, and the third will be held in Brazil, in 2020. The congresses aims to promote the critical discussion  and a constructive approach to transnational cultural cooperation networks, respectively, in the Portuguese context, in the European context and in the Ibero-American context.
It was in this context that the Communication and Society Research Centre of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho hosted, on 15-16 November 2016, the international congress ‘Redes de Cooperação Cultural Transnacionais: Um olhar sobre a realidade lusófona’ [Transnational Cultural Cooperation Networks: A look at the lusophone reality] , whose contributions come together in this volume’.
