Looking to the future means reflecting on the social, cultural, historical, political and economic circumstances that are essential for the development of science and technology.
The book Social Studies of Science and Technology: Perspectives seeks to incorporate an interdisciplinary approach to understanding how the production and application of scientific and technological knowledge gives rise to many implications for the societies that need to be studied.
Societies are not just the product of a historical path based on the need to control and conquer the future, but are economically, socially and politically dependent on everything related to the future. The aim here is to project some central issues in analysing decision-making about science and technology, in discussing, preparing and anticipating alternative futures and in responding to the complex challenges of today’s societies in an interdisciplinary way.
