About the book

In order to better understand  the dynamics that young people, particularly the Portuguese, show in relation to participation and journalism – trying to escape the reductionist views that merely point to a departure – we have launched ourselves in the challenge of better understanding the contexts of action, its molds and its purposes. These thems were the subject of reflection through a longitudinal case study (2010-2012), carried out with 35 young people with different forms of participation, in intensity and diversity, and with different social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
The corpus has made it possible to learn better and understand specific contexts and reach profiles about the news consumption (including politics) and participation.
The typologies point out to a complex reality, in which the familiar factors, the wider social contexts and the individual will are striking.
The Preface is signed by Peter Dahlgren, Emeritus Professor at the University of Lund, Sweden, and one of the most respected scholars of the dynamics of journalism and civic cultures, especially among young people.
