Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturais / Lusophone Journal of Cultural Studies (e-ISSN: 2183-0886 | ISSN: 2184-0458) is a thematic journal of the area of Cultural Studies. Published since 2013 in the OJS system, this journal has a rigorous scientific arbitration system and is published in Portuguese and English twice a year. From 2013 to 2016, was published by the University of Minho and Aveiro, in conjunction with the Doctoral Program in Cultural Studies. From 2017 onwards it is published exclusively by the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), Institute of Social Sciences, University of Minho. The editorial board of Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturais / Lusophone Journal of Cultural Studies integrates renowned specialists in Cultural Studies from all over the world.

According to data from the United Nations Refugee Agency (https://pacnur.org/pt), it is estimated that there are approximately 120,000,000 people in situations of forced mobility in the world. These populations are forced to leave their regions of origin due to situations of violence, armed conflicts, persecution, systematic human rights violations and/or in response to the impacts of climate change. In the media and political discourse, the expressions “immigrants”, “ethnic minorities”, “races” are often associated, referring to the understanding of “immigrant” as someone who differs from the “norm” in racial and cultural terms. When skin color is not made explicit as a demarcation criterion, it is operationalized through images, implicitly reinforcing processes of racialization. Furthermore, not all foreigners are seen as “immigrants” and not all nationals are considered “citizens”. (…)
If, for a while, some of us were under the illusion of living in a post-colonial or post-imperial world, the way in which migration has been reported by the media agenda tends to obliterate the historical processes and inequalities that colonialism and imperialism have established, as well as the complexity of the political and environmental aspects.
