Doctoral Seminar to discuss “Challenges and difficulties that unite”

“Challenges and difficulties that unite: testimonies” is the theme of the first Doctoral Seminar on Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies of 2019. Scheduled for next March 1, at 10:00 am, in the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho, this seminar has invited Isabel Macedo and Mariana Lameiras.

Isabel Macedo holds a doctorate in Cultural Studies from the University of Minho and the University of Aveiro in the area of Communication and Culture. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Sociology of Education and Educational Policies from the University of Minho and a degree in Education Sciences from the same university. Her Ph.D. thesis is entitled “Migrations, Cultural Memory and Identity Representations: Film Literacy in the Promotion of Intercultural Dialogue”, a project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. She is a science and technology manager and researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre. She coordinates the study on Mozambican and Portuguese cinema developed under the project “Memories, cultures and identities: how the past weights on the present-day intercultural relations in Mozambique and Portugal?”.

Mariana Lameiras is a Senior Academic Fellow at the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) and a researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre at the University of Minho. She is involved in Communication Policy, Electronic Governance and Digital Government. Recently, her research focuses on e-Participation, with a focus on the intersection between digital media and participation (politics). She holds a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, where she obtained the degree, with the maximum classification, with the dissertation titled “Regulation of Media in Democracy: Experiences and Models in the Portuguese Case”, guided by Helena Sousa.
