PolObs Seminar: “Changing skin: Body and Ecofeminisms between institution and culture”

The seminar ‘Changing Skin: Body and Ecofeminisms between Institution and Culture’ will be held on 10 September at 3 pm as part of the PolObs Culture 2024 Seminar Cycle – Connecting Doctoral Projects with Cultural Policies. The event will take place via Zoom.

The guest for this session is Rita Xavier, a PhD student in Cultural Studies at the University of Minho, where she is carrying out her doctoral research, the scope of which is to inscribe the female body and the reconstructions of female identity in the artistic and cultural ecosystem of the city of Porto, from 2001 to the present.

Rita Xavier is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho with a project funded by FCT that reflects on the inscription of the body in the contemporary artistic and cultural context in the light of ecofeminisms. She graduated in Philosophy (FLUP 2008) and has a master’s degree in Artistic Studies (FBAUP 2011). She was a Guest Lecturer in Aesthetics and Contemporary Art and Culture at ESE do Politécnico do Porto (2010-2014). As a research fellow, she worked for the Art History Institute (FCSH/UNL) on the Contemporary Art Documentation project (2012) and the unplace-a museum without a place project (2014-2015). She was the communications and programming advisor for Teatro Municipal do Porto and Festival DDD – Dias da Dança (2016-2020) and for the Porto Museum and Book Fair (2020-2023). She works as an independent programme maker and in communications consultancy for artistic structures and develops performing arts criticism.
