Images play a fundamental role in social, political and cultural upheavals. The visual arts can unleash mindsets and reshape worldviews as forms of action, political expression and identity. They can be used to transform communities and societies.
This thematic section of Vista is dedicated to understanding the arts in their broadest sense, looking at artistic manifestations that challenge assumptions and the status quo, reshape mindsets and promote the improvement of social systems.
We invite the academic community to submit proposals that encompass critical dialogues on visual arts and the public, on the workings of the arts at their intersection with creativity, justice, imagination and metamorphosis. We encourage proposals for papers based on scientific research work and that address the following themes: cultures, visual arts and human rights; visual arts as activism; visual culture, community, resistance and liberation; artists as agents of social change; visual arts and education.
Submission deadline: 30 October 2021
Acceptance of submissions: 20 November 2021
Submission of the final translated versions: 6 December 2021
Journal publication date: December 2021
Proposals may be submitted in Portuguese or English. After the peer review period, the authors of proposals accepted for publication must ensure the translation of their papers into Portuguese or English, respectively. The editors will make the final decision on the publication of the paper.
Vista is an open-access academic journal, following demanding peer-review standards, based on a double-blind review process. After submission, the papers will be forwarded to two reviewers, previously invited to evaluate them according to their academic quality, originality and relevance to the journal’s objectives and scope.
The guidelines for authors are available here.
